Laser Therapy
Our Class IV Medical Laser utilizes infrared laser light to help facilitate healing with this innovative technology.
Class IV Medical Laser
The opioid free, surgery free solution. Get advance pain relief with innovative laser therapy. Clinically proven through multiple research studies for efficacy and improved patient outcomes.
During each quick and painless treatment, laser energy is administered to the affected area to increase circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to damaged cells. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.
During laser therapy, the infrared laser light interacts with tissues at the cellular level and metabolic activity increases within the cell, improving the transport of nutrients across the cell membrane. This initiates the increase production of cellular energy (ATP) that leads to a cascade of beneficial effects, increasing cellular function and overall health.
The Power of Laser Therapy
There are thousands of published scientific studies demonstrating the clinical effectiveness of laser therapy. Among these, there are more than one hundred rigorously controlled scientific studies that document the effectiveness of laser for many clinical conditions, including:
Tendinopathies
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Myofascial Trigger Points
Tennis Elbow
Neck & Back Pain
Muscle Strains
Ligament Sprains
Chondromalacia Patellae
Plantar Fasciitis
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Osteoarthritis
Shoulder & Knee Pain
Shingles
Fibromyalgia
Diabetic Neuropathy

Biostimulating soft tissue has many benefits. Class IV laser therapy is proven to biostimulate tissue repair and growth. Class IV laser therapy accelerates the healing process by decreasing inflammation, pain and scar tissue formation. In the management of chronic and acute pain, Class IV laser therapy can provide dramatic results.
“Ever since going to Essence and receiving regular chiropractic care and laser on my shoulder, I’ve been able to golf without pain. I’ve noticed an improvement in my range of motion and am excited for my upcoming season.”

At Essence we use a Summus medical laser for all our laser therapy treatments. This laser works through photobiomodulation (PBM), a process where photons are absorbed by several different components of our tissues, called ‘chormophores’. A sufficient amount of light needs to reach the targeted tissue to get the best therapeutic result. Through this procedure there are various benefits to be gained:
A boost in cellular metabolism
Reduction in muscle spasms
A decrease in pain
Improved healing to damaged tissues
By applying stimulation to the specific wavelengths that affect the cell receptors inside our body, laser therapy can modify the effects of injured tissues. As such, it can reduce the overall duration of inflammation, while enhancing the body’s healing and repair capabilities. Here are just a few results that have been observed in various clinical studies as a result of laser therapy:
Better vasodilation
Better collagen production
Better cell membrane
Better cell metabolism
Better lymphatic response
Better microcirculation
Better nerve regeneration
Better pain threshold
Better bone and tissue repair
Better enzyme response
Reduced edema magnitude
Reduced duration in inflammation
Because laser treatment is non-surgical and non-invasive, you’ll be able to go home on the same day as treatment and right back into your regular routine. Although, it’s best to avoid strenuous and direct exercise to help speed up your recovery process. The Doctor who supervises your laser therapy treatments will give you post-treatment advice.

We get a lot of questions about what to expect from your laser treatment, so we’ve summed up the frequently asked ones here.
What does laser treatment feel like?
There is little or no sensation during treatment. Occasionally the patient feels a mild, soothing warmth or tingling.
Are there any side effects or risks to laser therapy?
During more than 20 years of use by healthcare providers all over the world, very few side effects have ever been reported. Occasionally, old injuries may feel aggravated for a few days as the healing response is more active right after treatment.
How often should a patient receive laser therapy?
Acute conditions may be treated daily, particularly if they are accompanied by significant pain. More chronic problems respond better when treatments are received 2 to 3 times per week, tapering to once every week or two as improvement is seen.
How many laser treatments does it take?
This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions, 4 to 6 treatments may be sufficient. Those of a more chronic nature may require more. Conditions, such as severe arthritis, may require ongoing periodic care to control pain.
How long before results are felt from laser therapy?
You may feel improvement in your condition (usually pain reduction) after the very first treatment. Sometimes you will not feel improvement for a number of treatments. This does not mean that the condition is not improving. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3 or 4 sessions
